In the pretty village of Espinaredo, Casa Espinareu is a great base for exploring the surrounding mountain scenery.
The village of Espinaredo, set up in the hills, is famed for having more "horreos" (traditional Asturian grain houses) than any other village in Asturias, some of them dating back to the 17th century. It's also known for the friendliness of its inhabitants. It has been dubbed the "quintessential Asturian village". This area of Asturias, called Piloña, is a great location for enjoying fantastic scenery without the crowds that can be found in some parts of the Picos de Europa but the Picos are still only a 30-minute drive away.
The property is a restored house that sits across the river in the upper part of the village. It has a good-sized open-plan kitchen/living room area with a wood-burning fireplace. The bedrooms have views across the village, or the group of "horreos" to the side of the property. The loft bedroom is a large bright space with a wood-vaulted ceiling. There are supplementary beds here to accommodate larger groups.
Espinaredo has two recreational forests nearby with picnic and barbecuing areas down by the river. There are numerous walking and cycling routes that begin from just outside the house. Arriondas is about 25 km away and lies on the Sella river, great for canoeing, while the coast at Ribadesella is about 40 km away.
A bar in the village offers basic provisions and simple meals, while there's a larger restaurant just outside the village. A baker visits the village every day, and a butcher/fishmonger twice a week. More shops and supermarkets can be found in the town of Infiesto, 6 km away.
