El Llugarón Grande is a perfect base for those looking for an active but comfortable stay in Asturias near both sea and "sierra".

This property is one of a group of rural retreats scattered around the village of Lugarón (see AS031 El Llugarón III, AS028 El Llugarón Norte and AS029 El Llugarón Sur). While they are all individual properties, they share a number of facilities: a parking area, a play area with swings, a slide, a table tennis table and a picnic area.

The house has a spacious living and dining area. It is worth noting that the kitchen facilities, for a large group, are limited (the ceramic hob has two rings, for example), but the proprietors own a restaurant in the village which serves breakfast and dinner and has a takeaway service. The bedrooms are all comfortable with views over the valley or the hillside.

Lugarón is a small village of a dozen houses set on the mountainside facing the beautiful valley of Miravalles and the natural reserve of the Sierra del Sueve. The village lies amid apple orchards and small forests, and numerous walking routes begin from the village itself. It's 4 km from the busy market town of Villaviciosa which has an elegantly historic centre and fantastic restaurants. This area also has numerous Romanesque and Pre-Romanesque churches (some of the most famous in Europe from this era) as well as some sweeping, sandy beaches. The pretty fishing villages of Tazones and Lastres are nearby too, where you can enjoy traditional fish and shellfish dishes.

The proprietors own a traditional "horreo" (Asturian grain house) which houses a small exhibition on its uses and restoration. They also have a restored "llagar" where you can see cider being made in the traditional way.
